What is depression?
Depression is not just sad or bad moods and occasional melancholy. It is not just feeling down or sad, either. These feelings are normal in children, especially during adolescence. While the major disappointments and setbacks make people feel sad and angry, negative feelings usually diminish with time. But when a depressive state that delay, or mood, for a long time - weeks, months or even longer - and limits a child's ability to function normally, can be diagnosed as depression.
