Is there really a magic formula that will help your 5 month infant sleep all throughout the night? Unfortunately there is no such formula, only by using tried and tested methods will you be able to help your 5 month infant sleep longer and longer each night. Read on and soon both you and your beautiful infant will be sleeping all night long. Here are some of the classic mistakes that almost every new parent makes at least once while trying to help their 5 month infant sleep; here is what not to do. Feeding until baby goes to sleep is a dangerous path to follow for two reasons. The main reason that this will cause trouble for your baby is that the baby will not get a chance to burp before going to sleep. This will cause gas pain that will likely wake the baby before they have slept long enough. The second reason that this is not a good idea is that your baby will associate going to sleep with food. This probably will lead them to expect a feeding every time they wake up and need to go back to sleep in the middle of the night. Try to establish a routine where you feed your baby before bath time and then upon waking in the morning. This will allow time for the baby to expel their gas and will help to break the trend of associating a feeding with sleeping. Introducing solids with their milk is another myth that many parents will hear. Many people think that the baby will sleep longer once they have a more satisfying meal in their tummies. The truth of the matter is that introducing solids too early may cause a tummy ache and prevent your baby from getting to sleep. Doctors defiantly do not recommend solids to babies under the age of six months. Some new parents think that putting your baby to bed late will help your 5 month infant sleep all night. As much as you would think that this should make sense, it’s really the opposite when it comes to babies. Although late to bed usually means early to rise in most cases. Putting your baby to bed later at night increases their chances of being overtired when they are laid down, that can result in more crying, greater resistance to getting to sleep and also a poorer quality of sleep. Babies sleep better, longer and are more rested when put to bed earlier than later. There are tons and tons of information available online to help your 5 month infant sleep for longer at night and I know how hard it can be; not sleeping night after night. Don’t panic there is help out there.
