Did you get a chance to visit the Caffeine Sandbox? In an effort to test and receive feedback on the new Google search architecture, Site programmers and User where given a glimps of the future by Google.. The Sandbox became an analyst’s playground, comparing search rankings for now with search rankings for soon. Site owners found that caffeine dramatically change their search positions not always for the better, whilst users where unaware of the differance.. Whether you visited as a curious timewaster or an anxiety-ridden user, the Sandbox likely gave you some things to think about. Few people only visited once, instead returning multiple times to retry the new system. And the google say no more and closes the SandBox for good. Google has posted this message . . . Based on the success we've seen, we believe Caffeine is ready for a larger audience. Soon we will activate Caffeine more widely, beginning with one data centre. This sandbox is no longer necessary and has been retired, but we appreciate the testing and positive input that webmasters and publishers have given. Non-committal words like “soon” aren’t great balms to ease the business-worlds’ anxieties. All this message tells us is that Caffeine will be active at some point in the future and will trickle (or race) through the data centres. If Google won’t tell you when your site will be affected the only thing you can do is act defensively and make the safe assumption. Given the quantity of data centres its’ unlikely that your site will be the first, but in light of the uncertainly perhaps you should pretend that it will. At some point in the not-so-distant-future all data centres will be Caffeine active - yours could be active now. Take the initiative and do all that you can to get ahead of the curve. The Caffeine Sandbox was the warning and the pre-season game all rolled into one. Anyone waiting for Google to send them a friendly reminder that they’re about to get Caffeined should not hold their breath - that is one memo that will never arrive.
